Chi Gong Class at Heartwood Center

Eight Pieces of Brocade (Ba Duan Jin) chi gong is coming to Evanston’s Heartwood Center in September!  The one-hour class runs from 5:45-6:45 every Thursday, beginning September 10 and running through October.

Chi gong, sometimes called the mother of tai chi, is a form of moving mediation created in China thousands of years ago.  Eight Pieces of Brocade is one of the original forms of chi gong; it truly represents the wisdom of the ancients.

Eight Pieces of Brocade consists of eight movements that exercise the entire body; each movement carries different, multiple health benefits. Eight Pieces of Brocade is both calming and energizing; it truly is meditation in action. Additionally, it is a superior form of joint-sparing, weight-bearing exercise, improves focus, and affords excellent stress management.  Eight Pieces of Brocade is a gentle and effective means of tension release, stretching, lower-body strengthening, and stress management. It promotes flexibility, increases lung capacity, enhances mental focus, and strengthens the skeletal muscles. Additionally, it is restorative, and simultaneously calming and revitalizing.
